LA Will Pay For Jackson’s Memorial

July 16, 2009

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of LA said that they will not be collecting any further donations to help pay off the cost of the memorial for Michael Jackson last Tuesday. He called the city’s website for donation ridiculous. He said LA would pay off the costs as other big cities pay for similar events each and every year. He additionally said that the Jacksons and AEG Live won’t be charged as well.

Obama Surprised

July 16, 2009

As President Obama was giving a speech a teleprompter crashed to the floor of the Eisenhower Executive Office Building in the White House. Obama was surprised a bit, as were the mayors and other elected officials in the room who just laughed. Obama uses teleprompters for big speeches and some smaller one as well.

Best Of 2008

December 30, 2008

10. TRL Finale – It was over a decade at the top for this long adorned show produced by MTV. Total Request Live closed its doors in November due to low ratings. The show may return in the future though. It all ended on a Sunday night with a big celebration with many of the stars that owe their entire careers to this one show that started with the now late night king Carson and a single camera man. Big things do start small.

9. Michael Phelps Swims His Way To Gold - This summer the man of the year almost became one Michael Phelps. We all were in amazement as the once lost child swam his way to gold medal after gold medal in the Olympics. What a year for Phelps

8. Monster On The Beach – Oh MY God, What is That! That’s what many were screaming after the find on a beach near New York. A mysterious creature was found that resembled everything you’d think an alien would be like. Check out the picture again here: http://news.aol.com/weird-news/2008-year-end/article/weird-and-wild-in-2008/279088?icid=200100397×1215907670x1201038697

7. The Brett Favre Saga – Remember over the summer the big ordeal over one of the league’s best quarterbacks returning out of retirement? It was insane wasn’t it? One minute he was out then he was in. The Packers were going to take him in, the Packers wanted nothing to do with him. Well, the season is over and I think we all know now that maybe the Pack didn’t make the best decision for this season at least. Here’s a link to the finale of the Brett Favre Saga: http://marcelmagazine.wordpress.com/?s=the+jets+get+brett+favre

6. David Cook Voted American Idol – I remember it well. It was May 2008. Thousands of screaming teenage girls and lets be honest, some grown women too. Oh yes, this was the scene the night that David Cook took the idol crown over Archie. Watch it here from this post: http://marcelmagazine.wordpress.com/?s=american+idol+news%3A+5-22-08

5. Lindsay Lohan Sort Of Comes Out – After some time of speculation the couple of Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson sort of came out this summer. Nothing was officially stated about the pairs coupling, however, it was implied, heavily implied. Best of luck to both of them. As for Lindsay, she has a brand new cd coming out check out one of her up coming singles here: http://marcelmagazine.wordpress.com/?s=ryan+seacrest%27s+feeling+lindsay+lohan

4. Tina Fey As Sarah Palin – This past Fall the nation was laughing, laughing hard. Tina Fey perfectly nailed Whitehouse hopeful Sarah palin on SNL. From her look, to her voice and more Fey had us all rolling on the floor laughing. Check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdDqSvJ6aHc

3. Brittney Spears’ Comeback –  After a terrible 2007 Brittney Spears hit out in 2008 with a mission. Back in shape and armed with a new cd Brittney accomplished that mission of regaining her place in the music industry. With several VMA wins this summer it was clear, Brittney was back!

2. McCain Chooses Sarah Palin As Running Mate – Needing to spice things up, Senator McCain choose governor Sarah Palin from Alaska to be his running mate. This was a desperation move most felt as Obama had clearly had Mccain beatten by this point. Palin brought a new life into the McCain campaign…just not in the areas they were hoping. Instead of gaining women supportors the two found more men suddenly interested in helping their cause, lol.

1. Barack Obama Elected President – This January will see history as the nation’s first black family heads into the whitehouse. November 4th, 2008 is a day that will be in history books for years to come as the nation built on slavery lived to see the day a black man was elected president. Many are still shocked, but strongly anticipating greatness to follow the horrible Bush administration that felt so many pissed off at the Republican party which led to Obama’s crushing victory in November.

There you have it, the best of 2008 as we at Marcel MAgazine Blog see it. Also congratulations to our 2008 Dime of the Year Jayla Murray. You can view more about her here: http://marcelmagazine.wordpress.com/?s=jayla+murray+2008+dime+of+the+year%21%21%21
